More than 5 million tonnes of sugar produced: how Russian mills are coping with current challenges and what to expect in 2025
Russia has completed the next stage of sugar beet processing and the country's total sugar production is now over 5 million tonnes. Last week, three sugar factories in the Belgorod, Voronezh and Ryazan regions completed their work this season. Currently, 47 out of 66 domestic sugar mills continue to operate. Daily sugar production volumes fell slightly to 36,000 tonnes, down from 34.7,000 tonnes last year. Since the start of the 2024/25 season, 34.04 million tonnes of beet has been processed, down 6.4% from 36.37 million tonnes in the same period last year. As a result, total sugar production was 5.08 million tonnes, down 1.5% from last year's figures. In addition, 1.44 million tonnes of cake and 1.27 million tonnes of molasses were produced. It is forecast that 26 mills will continue to operate in January 2025 with a daily output of 22,000 tonnes of sugar. This amount will still be well below the country's daily requirements of about 7,500 tonnes.News source: https://sugar.ru
